Runnin' down a dream

I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was un-stoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine

Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream

By Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Mike Campbell

We've been running from marina to marina for the last few days. The weather has been very weird this year, (we've been saying that for a while now) and some pretty serious thunderstorms build up offshore and make for beautiful light shows, but ugly seas.
So... it's been the ICW for us.

Fort Pierce City Marina just before a storm
These bruised skies are pretty typical of what we've seen everyday and night.

The old Hatteras motor yacht in the picture above,"Hinesite", belongs to some folks we met many years ago when we'd first started cruising. They were at a marina in Carrabelle, FL and like us were waiting for the right weather to cross the Gulf of Mexico. The fellow who owns the boat is the son of Duncan Hines... some of you won't remember, some will.
That crossing was our first time to cross the Gulf in our own boat. We were a bit apprehensive.

We stayed at Fort Pierce for a couple of days and ran into Jeff and Cathy, old friends from Sunset Bay. It was fun catching up.

Then as we were pushing past Cape Canaveral someone called us on the radio. Again, old friends, Don and Sharon are some of our Compass Cay family. I got a nice pic of their boat, Siren's Song, as they passed.

Dinner at Titusville Marina was on their boat and again, it was fun catching up and hearing all the scuttlebutt about Compass.

This ICW run has been like old home week. It's fun to unexpectedly run across old friends and have time to hang out.

Daytona may be where we spend our 4th of July celebration. Halifax Harbor is a nice marina with good wifi so maybe I can get some work done. work done... doesn't sound right.

Today's Pic

We're finally on the move.

No internet so the pics will load automatically for a few days.
It's been a while since we've traveled somewhere we've never been, we're excited.

When I remember how, I'll turn on the Spot Locator and post a link.

Cheers,

Today's Pic

Looking at this pic, I remember it was a damn hot, hazy day on the Chesapeake and the wind was blowing pretty good from the mouth of The Rappahannock River giving this sailboat a nice close reach with a good head of speed.
I'd noticed him off in the distance a couple of miles away and he was quickly approaching our starboard side.

Closer and closer he sailed directly towards our starboard. It appeared he was attempting to catch us and kept adjusting course and pointing in our direction, even as we motored at 9 knots. I thought he just wanted a look, but as he came within sight I could see someone standing on the bow waving his arms. Soon I could hear the cussing; ranting something about the right of way. My taking pictures seemed to send him back to the cockpit, but as we let him pass ahead of us, the whole crew gave us the one finger wave.
Finally figuring out the problem... we were dirtying his air.
Serious sailors on the Bay.
