Today's Pics

Are late...

We were about to pull into Deltaville and Dozier's Marina as we always do when a fellow who'd been following us since we left Solomons called to let us know he was about to slowly overtake us to head to an anchorage. I asked where he was going and he said Fishers Bay.
So we followed him in... what a nice anchorage. Not too deep and comfortably wide so we dropped a hook. Actually there was a little more drama than that, but it was technical and all worked out well.

The sunset offered up a few photos and we've found, yet another, nice place to hang out on the Bay.

It was a memorable end to a relatively short run... who knows... we may stay for a couple of days.
I think we're feeling like dragging our feet... Not ready for the long slog down the waterway and home.

Boats on the Bay

Trawler Fest in Baltimore is happening this weekend and Krogen is making a big show of it.
Solomons has turned into Krogen Central.

Pretty boats.

Tapestry

Our steering issues have been resolved, but we decided to stick around for the weekend.
Friday, we had dinner with Don, Spring Cove's service manager, and his wife Linda, along with our friends John and Monica.
Chilled yesterday while cooking a roast in the crock pot and watching the Georgia/LSU game and today's NFL.
We'll try that departure thing again tomorrow. Not sure where yet, but it's all coming to a close for the Bay.
Kinda sad, it's been fun.

Adios,

The LAPD, The FBI and The CIA

 Ha!

The LAPD, The FBI and The CIA

The LAPD, The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and each of them has to catch it.

The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads they burn the forest, killing everything in it, including the rabbit, and they make no apologies. The rabbit had it coming.

The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear. The bear is yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!'

Another door...

In Baltimore... it's hard to tell from this pic, but it's the skinniest door I've ever seen. It's in an old historically protected part of town so there's no telling how long it's been there. It's about 2' wide.

Well... Red skies at morn?

I guess we were warned.

We told our friends at Solomons Island Yacht Club goodbye last night. Wednesday night is All You Can Eat Crab Legs Night and it seemed like a fitting event for an Adios Dinner.
Everyone told us to come back anytime and we promised we would.
We do like the Yacht Club a lot and it's on our short list of places to return to.

Leaving the harbor this morning, as usual, I used my thrusters to get away from the dock. I stepped back into the pilothouse and grabbed the wheel to steer toward the channel... It felt peculiar... like the autopilot was engaged. The wheel would turn the rudder, but it felt different than usual; no resistance at all.
I engaged the autopilot and used it to steer out to the bay.

Well...

Long story short, we blew a seal in the steering system. I could still maneuver using the autopilot, but had no manual steering.
It could easily have been a TowBoatUS day... but we managed.

So, we've returned to Solomons sooner than we'd anticipated.

Now we're tied up at Spring Cove and via a friend of a friend, we're already being repaired. John called Don and Chaz is pulling the pump as I'm posting this.
That's how Solomons works.
It's good to have friends.

All in all, it could be worse... if we have to be stuck somewhere, we're very happy it's here.
Plus, I was up early enough to take in this beautiful sunrise.

Thanks for checkin' on us.

Cheers,

So today... we're leaving Solomons. It's been a very calming experience. Nice folks and a nice place to hang out for a week... again.

The harbor as the sun calls it a day.
Not sure where today will take us.

Adios, Solomons Island

USCG Eagle

Our friend, Karen from FLL, emailed and asked if we had seen her... she said she had just watched a special about the Eagle.

Here ya go, Karen
