So, here we are... St Simons Island, Georgia.
Mel's dad and I fished this creek many times.
I'll never forget the last fishing trip we took together; we caught too many Spot Tail Bass (Redfish) and they were all too large, totally over the legal limit. When I brought it to his attention, he kinda chuckled and said, "The hell with that! As many times as you and I have fished this river and got skunked, we're gonna make up for it now. I think they owe us."
And we did. Probably 25 and they were huge. We got away with it and shared them all.
Lots of memories...

Not sure what tomorrow brings until we wake up. Maybe stay or maybe go to Savannah.

Boat Babies

The main reason for the stop in Jacksonville was to meet this little girl; our new granddaughter, Maddie.
She's a sweetie for sure.

And of course we can't omit our little hippie grandson, Silas.

Silas always seems to be enjoying himself... He's quite the little dude.

And he loves boats...

We had a fun time, but our stay was too short. For insurance obligations we had to run to Georgia, where we are tonight. TS Chantal is still looming and, of course according to computer models, she's heading straight for us.

Guess we got a late start for our journey north, but I'm sure we'll enjoy ourselves doing what ever it is we do. We are on the boat.

We've put this pic up before, but as we prepare for a short run from Jax to Brunswick it seemed appropriate to post this shot of our approach to the St Simons.

Some weather's brewing and the seas are picking up tomorrow. We may stay at St. Simons Island till it all blows over. Computer models predict TS Chantal will blow to shore anywhere from Georgia to the Carolinas.

So for Mel, It appears she returning to her home town.

It's all good.

Bizarre Aircraft

The Caproni Ca.60 Noviplano was a nine-wing flying boat intended to be a prototype for a 100-passenger trans-atlantic airliner. It featured eight engines and three sets of triple wings. Two pontoons, mounted on each side, were intended to give the aircraft stability. Only one example of this aircraft was built by Caproni. The prototype only made one short flight on 4 March 1921 over Lake Maggiore in Italy. The aircraft attained an altitude of only 18 m (60 ft), then dived and crashed, breaking up on impact. The pilot escaped unscathed. Caproni had the wrecked airplane towed to shore, and announced that he would rebuild it, but that night it burned to ashes.

Last night was quiet (sorry) quite a light show. Must have been 10 different firework shows in the area. All in sight. Muddy didn't care for that, he doesn't like firecrackers at all.

We're booked in the St. Augustine City Marina today. We haven't been there in more than 10 years, but they've rebuilt since our last stay and it sounds really nice.
Probably a little touristy for our tastes, but it's an interesting old town if our memories are correct.
The weather, though hot, is getting better all the time. After the Jacksonville area and family, I think we'll probably start pushing more aggressively. But, who knows. Maybe Savannah or Charleston is in the near future vs. the trip back. It all depends on the weather.

Daytona: a nice place and a nice marina. Very friendly folks up and down the docks, and it's a really good deal for those looking for a yearly slip lease. We're not, but who knows? Maybe on the way back. Maybe not.

We really didn't do much while here, but oft times we don't do much. Sometimes we just like to be in a new place.

Like Memphis, there's an old Kress building here. It's a gallery in Daytona. 

So tomorrow we'll move further north. The weather has changed somewhat, no threatening thunderstorms so we're good to go.

We don't mind rain or wind, but lightning is a show stopper.
