Island dogs

Seems every year there are more and more boaters bringing their dogs to the islands.

Don't know a name, but couldn't resist snapping a pic of this one watching as the bow line is being tied. There were two of these guys... the other ran to the back to watch the stern being secured.

Of course we can't leave out Radar. He loves going to the beach to run, but he knows beach day is bath day so he makes the most of it. Not sure why dogs like to wallow in the sand, but they all seem to.

And Sugar... aka "Suggie". The singing dog.
This is not a good picture of Suggie and he was our favorite pooch on the dock. A true comedian that everyone loves. This picture was of Suggie being held by his human Thelma as he was singing happy birthday. He loves to sing.
Suggie is a resident here at Compass who's enjoying a bit of a respite in Virginia right now.

This is Rook, he is a Compass Cay veteran and he does think this is his marina. As the other dogs walk past he's sure to let them know who's boss, then he chills and lets them pass. He's been coming here with his humans for 8 years. Guess he deserves tenure.

And this is Vacca... She is Rook's buddy. Vacca loves to stand on the fish cleaning stand and stare at the sharks; at high tide she'll do this for hours. She's not at all afraid of them, she actually likes to walk around the stand amongst the sharks and bark. I think she's talking to them. So do her humans. Vacca is another veteran of Compass.

Saw this today on Trawler Blogs... Apropos?

This is just a few of the critters here on the island. Compass kitty or Orange cat is another. This cat comes down at night and terrorizes all the dogs. She's very sweet to people, but mean as hell to the dogs. I wouldn't call her feral, but damn close.

I don't have a pic of Compass Kitty... but googled around and found this one. I'm pretty sure this is Sid and Alysha, folks we met here in 08, and friends of the Texas crew that just left. Am I right Codi? Compass kitty is much larger now. Looks so sweet huh?

Compass Critters.

  1. You're right! That's Sid and Alysha, they'll be very happy to see little Compass Kitty!

  2. Wish we would have been there to assist in celebrating Bob's birthday! What a place to spend the beginning of a new year!
That is me w/ the precious Compass should see the pic I keep on my fridge when he was a tiny ball of orange fur :) Cheers, Alysha
