 Always Watching

Can't leave out Little Mud.

And of course... in all his Mudness, he immediately chewed up the SD card that stored his pics.

Been having a lot of fun with the new camera. Full Frame is really cool.
I've, for once, decided to download some classes and learn how to properly use Photoshop, Lightroom, as well as the camera itself. All this stuff is out there and most is free.
So, more pup pics until we finally get somewhere that will inspire. We can't wait to spend time in places like Savannah, Charleston, The Chesapeake area, Baltimore... then the unknown; New England. I'm sure there will be a lot of digital data stored and manipulated.

Kickstarter... hmmm...

Re-Imagining the World of Tomorrow

We should try this...

Our Kickstarter Campaign:

Hi, we're Crew Istaboa. We're planning on taking our boat up the eastern coast of the USA, stopping all along the way and eating at restaurants, observing how that part of the world lives, and in the course of experiencing the culture of other cities... we'll share ours.
Please send money for diesel fuel, dockage, and other expenses.

For those who are humor impaired... Just kidding

Vert's Model Ship Shop

This shop has Vert Lowe's handcrafted two-mast schooners and sloops. Model prices range anywhere from $100 to $1,200. If Vert's shop door is locked—and it often is—knock at the white house with bright pink shutters next door. If you're still unsuccessful, inquire at the Green Turtle Club, where Vert has worked for more than 30 years.

Yep... another Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Championship has come and gone. The weather worked out nicely, meaning it was warm and overcast with no rain, and it seems to have been a success. Saw thousands of folks milling around the bluffs overlooking the river as we walked the pups. The team that uses this old Willys Jeep as a smoker won in the Whole Hog category.

Now, it's the NBA Playoffs. The Memphis Grizzlies are taking on the San Antonio Spurs in the Western finals. As usual Memphis is the underdog and the Spurs are favored to win, but that's the way it's been all season and...

The Streets of Memphis

Yep, it's time to start thinking about our return to the boat and the next trip. Subdued excitement mixed with a tad of apprehension seems to be the emotional indicator that signals it's about time to go to float.
Dirt's been fun.

Impressions Of The Music Fest

Lookin at pictures of the festival, because we opted to listen from the apartment and not walk down, there was a very noticeable theme that ran throughout all of them.

But in typical Memphis fashion; make the best of a bad situation...  and party on.

The Last Real Photo Shop

I've been wanting a new camera for a while and have researched everything to death on the internet. From Amazon to Adorama to Ken Rockwell, I've studied and shopped every Nikon made, but still couldn't justify the camera I really wanted.
Till today...
I've always wanted a full frame sensor DSLR, but the prices have kept such a beast out of sensible reach from a photographer like myself. Recently Nikon released the D600 that's still a bit pricey, but not insanely so. I've almost bought one for months only to walk away empty handed.
Today, I went to the last photo shop in Memphis. Memphis Photo Supply has been around for 103 years. Yep, that's right, 103 years.

Cut from their website:
My grandfather, Fred G. Boehme Sr., founded Memphis Photo in 1906 -- Teddy Roosevelt was president, a new car cost $750, a gallon of gas was 28 cents and the average price for a new house was $2800!  The business was incorporated in 1916, and that same year, we started doing business with Eastman Kodak.  Very few companies in business today can say they’ve had an account with Kodak as long as we have.
My father, Fred G. Boehme Jr., joined the Company in 1932 during the Depression and  I joined the Company in 1974 after graduating from the University of North Carolina.  My name is Fred G. Boehme III, but everyone calls me Buzzy.
For three generations Memphis Photo Supply has been meeting the photographic needs of the Mid-South.  Whether you’re a professional photographer, a first-time camera buyer or a photofinishing customer, our friendly, knowledgeable staff (including two Certified Photographic Counselors and a professional studio photographer) can answer your questions and help you find what you need.
And yes, I had a long conversation with Buzzy.

After that long conversation where he convinced me I should buy the camera I want, he said, "I bet you'll buy that D600, but you'll buy it online and pay about a hundred dollars less. That's pretty much my cost."
I thought about it for a second before I said, "Nope, order it for me, we'll do it the old way."
Later in the day my phone rang and it was Buzzy. He was calling to tell me he had found a deal on a refurbished D600 and that it would save me $400.00. He said, "You'll save 400 and I'll make an extra 50. I'll warranty it for a year for free. Let's see the internet beat that."

 done with my iPhone

I love a win-win deal.

Gonna really love that D600.

Shop local while it's still possible. It doesn't cost much more for personal and professional service.

Fn Spammers!

I've always hated having to input the bizarre letter/number CAPTCHA anti-spam tests that Blogger uses to stop spammers from doing their thing, but... it's gotten way out of hand.
Not sure what they hope to achieve.
But, they win.
CAPTCHA challenge-response is now imposed...
