A very Sailboaty place indeed

We think we may have picked the wrong marina. We like sailboats, but... we like our own kind also and there were no trawlers here at all. So.....

A day's work to Solomans Island

The Point No Point light house

But now we have arrived at historic Solomons Island, Maryland.
Heck, we even changed our background in tribute to this very sail-boaty place. And... upon arrival, we had to navigate through a huge sail boat race just to get into the Pawtuxent River and the marina. It will last for 3 days. The 2010 Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge.

Deltaville, VA

Yesterday we made the short little run to Deltaville. Still very humid and hazy out but the seas were smooth. It's very hot here on the Bay right now, about 95 with 95% humidity, but inside Istaboa our A/C was doing the trick. No running from outside until we must.

All work and not much play

That's what been going on here. Catchin up on the chores we've been putting off. Stainers full of Sea Nettles was where we started. That'll clog up water flow and cause A/C failure and with 95 degree weather that would really suck. Then we started on the washing machine that would not drain. After much thought, toil, and trouble we found the problem... .20 cents. Yep, 2 dimes were lodged in the drain hose.

Prepare to be...

  1. horrified
  2. shocked
  3. angry
  4. really angry
  5. despondent

We have always loved the Northern Gulf Coast of the U.S. and always will. For us it was the ocean and beaches of our youth. From New Orleans to Gulf Shores, From Pensacola to Apalachicola, there is a way of life (and food) like no other. Good, talented, hard working folks. Fine food, fun, and music...

A gray day indeed...

Leaving Portsmouth, we ran out the ship's channel and turned to port at Thimble Shoal light.

Thimble Shoal Light

Heading for the Bay

Catching up from our last post... We left Norfolk and traveled all the way to Portsmouth; a trip of about a quarter of a mile.
I had some computer work to do, charts and stuff, so we moved to the less touristy side of the river. Tidewater Marina turned out to be a really good spot to sit for a few days. Good folks and a great restaurant....

Norfolk

After passing mile marker 0 on the waterway, we decided to stay at Waterside Marina in Downtown Norfolk. Pretty cool place. With the skyline view on one side and a Hooter's view on the other; this is an interesting Marina. Downtown has a lot to offer, but not on the 5th of July.

Sweet Virginia

But a little more about Beaufort, NC.
We had a nice night in Beaufort. It's a beautiful town and they take their heritage seriously. Pirates are everywhere.
