Looks like the fun is over for a while. Things have gone down-hill on the mother front. So, off to Elvisville we go.
But a funny first....

Did Yorktown, but no pics
Yesterday, we drove to Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg but all we did was go to the grocery store. I guess it's still vacation time for most folks because everything was very crowded and we didn't want to stand in lines to see history. We did see a hostage situation at Yorktown's Wal-Mart though.
But poking around today on the internet I found these old color photos from the 40's. Interesting stuff.

More on Reedville
To catch back up, we left St. Michaels and ran pretty hard to get as far south as we could by around 5:00 PM. (Happy Hour) That turned out to be Reedville. We had read about the marina in Active Captain and it sounded like a nice place. Though the reviews did mention a fishy smell.

Reedville, VA
We caught the tide running in our favor, so we ran all the way to Reedville.
Nice place; an old fishing village with large fishing boats tied up as we entered the creek where Reedville marina was located. Though not St. Michaels, we were tired of the tourist stuff and looking for folksy, and the folks at the marina were very nice and accommodating. The restaurant (The Crazy Crab) was good, but there was one small problem...
We will download some pics and tell the rest of the story later.
Now we are back in Gloucester, VA and tied up at York River Yacht Haven. This will be home for a while.
More later.

Dinkabout — St. Michaels
OK... Our quaint little marina has lost some of it's coziness. What a difference a day makes.Yesterday, just a quiet little marina with a handful of boats and today it looks like Ft. Lauderdale. But, everyone is still very friendly.
So, we put the dink in the water and went Dinkabout...
Walkabout — St. Michaels
View from cockpit 5:45 this morning
We have found St. Michaels to be a fetching little place. The homes and shops are held to period and kept up nicely. The locals are mostly weekenders or those who cater to them, but everyone is quite friendly.
It's unbearably hot, but we managed to do a little walkabout around town just to get a feel and it felt good...

St. Michaels... The Eastern Shore
St. Michaels Marina
In search of the real thing.Crew Istaboa is tiring of the resort marinas and our itch for real-authentic northeastern style boatyness has not been scratched. So, today we head over to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake hoping to find it at Saint Michaels. We'll see... we understand it has really good restaurants and we're hoping for some good Maryland Crab. Maybe it's the proximity to Baltimore or DC that makes this northern section of the Bay so touristy. Not sure why, but we hope St. Micheals is the answer.
So far our favorite cruising has been in the southern part of the Chesapeake.
The York River area seems to have our vote.
Crossing our fingers, we head west...

I hate when that happens
Forty-ton whale lands on yacht during Cape Town sailing trip
A couple who took a yacht for a quiet sailing trip were stunned when a 40-ton whale crash-landed on their boat off Cape Town.
