Today's Pics
Our nasty day on the Bay ended well in Deltaville... that's what matters.
There was that red sky thing going on and the water was nice and flat. The thunderstorms that passed through weren't bad at all and provided some very cool visuals.
This morning we rose early and made the run to Solomons Island, MD.
You can see from this pic of the light at Point No Point, (great name) the seas were pretty kind today. All the snarly, wind lashed chop from the day before had flattened out giving us a smooth sail across the Potomac to the Patuxent River and into Solomons.
This was a Yachtista day.
Muy Bueno Mares!
Have a good weekend.

Today's Pic
Deltaville in the rain.
Seems so peaceful, who would have thought that just a quarter mile around the bend were 25 knot winds and 4 to 5' wind rollers. Certainly not the dock manager at Regatta Point.
When I visited the office to sign us in, I asked about the weather. He pointed to a printed NOAA forecast that stated the seas were 1' or less. I scoffed at the report.
"Maybe inside Broad Creek where the marina is located, certainly not in the bay.", I laughed. I don't think he believed me.
He said that two small sailboats had just left.
As we were approaching the Rappahannock River, we saw the only other pleasure boats on the bay... those two sailboats. They were having their asses handed to them and at one point I thought they were headed back. I guess they thought it best to take it on the nose vs turn around in that mess and deal with the following seas. It appeared that they were scurrying to a marina around the point. They were having an exciting day, for sure.
Ah, the life of leisure we Yachtista's enjoy.
Cocktails, sunshine, and Jimmy Buffet singing in the background. All the time.
Cheers,
Istaboa

Today's Pic
is a bit late.
Today was a different kinda day for us. We've always prided ourselves as being pleasure boaters, but today turned out to be less than pleasurable. More a job and not a good one.
But as it all came to a close, no one was bleeding... so everything's good.
The boys might argue that point.
Busy so no pics of the day. It was ugly and rainy so...
This was from the Hampton Roads area as we left Portsmouth.
Tonight we're kicking back, enjoying the peace and quiet of Deltaville, VA.
Tomorrow our plan is to visit Solomons Island, MD and our nephew Neil.
Should be fun... he's a great guy.
Cheers,

Today's Pic
And there was light... what a difference a day makes.
We tied up at Tidewater Marina. We like it here in Portsmouth, better than Norfolk, simply because the Norfolk skyline is so cool. A bit different than we've seen in a long time.
So, we have no idea where we may be tonight. If the weather is as good as it's been, we'll anchor... if not...?
Wow... the end of July already.
We need to get going.

One more AYB shot
Probably the coolest thing about Atlantic Yacht Basin is it's time worn patina — or funk as we'd admiringly describe it in Memphis.
I've posted this shot before, but while having coffee this morning, I enhanced it a bit. The original's exposure was out of whack so I'll probably work on this shot for years. I love this photograph, I think AYB's funky old boat shed framed those I love quite nicely. (Sorry Mud, you weren't around then.)

Some old shots taken at Atlantic Yacht Basin.
Hopefully by the time this is posted we'll be movin on up the Chesapeake.

A nice surprise
A few days ago, we received a comment on the blog from Barefootman. He said he was from this area and asked if we had time for a visit.
Of course we have time. Time is in abundance aboard Istaboa
So Saturday; Jay, his wife Cathy, and their 2 1/2 year old twins, Nick and Sadie stopped by for a bit. They were very nice folks and we got along as if we'd known each other for years.
Beautiful kids.
We hope to stay in touch and someday run into them at their home on Elbow Cay, Abacos.
Jay shared a picture of a Solar Powered Fan Hat. Great idea.

I need one of these.
The ultimate gear head hat.
The ultimate gear head hat.
So a big 'Thanks' to the Matthews for brightening up our day at sleepy old Atlantic Yacht Basin. It was fun.
