This shop has Vert Lowe's handcrafted two-mast schooners and sloops. Model prices range anywhere from $100 to $1,200. If Vert's shop door is locked—and it often is—knock at the white house with bright pink shutters next door. If you're still unsuccessful, inquire at the Green Turtle Club, where Vert has worked for more than 30 years.

Yep... another Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Championship has come and gone. The weather worked out nicely, meaning it was warm and overcast with no rain, and it seems to have been a success. Saw thousands of folks milling around the bluffs overlooking the river as we walked the pups. The team that uses this old Willys Jeep as a smoker won in the Whole Hog category.

Now, it's the NBA Playoffs. The Memphis Grizzlies are taking on the San Antonio Spurs in the Western finals. As usual Memphis is the underdog and the Spurs are favored to win, but that's the way it's been all season and...
